【摘要】Do ‘sinful’ firms behave differently when they migrate from one place to the other? Being motivated by this intriguing question, this study examines whether Chinese subsidiaries of the multinational corporations (MNCs) from tax havens conduct more tax avoidance in China than their counterparts from non-tax haven jurisdictions. Contrary to the belief that sin is always a sin, we find that tax havens’ subsidiaries in China engage in less tax avoidance than the subsidiaries of the non-tax haven MNCs. The finding is robust to different measures of tax avoidance. Cross-sectional tests reveal that the observed phenomenon is attenuated when the subsidiaries face great financial constraint or when they experience industry-wide recession. Finally, additional analyses highlight that the observed phenomenon is possibly attributable to subsidiaries’ concern for reputation and stricter tax enforcement imposed by local tax administration. 

【主讲人简介】游家兴，厦门大学管理学院教授、博士生导师，厦门大学管理学院企业管理博士，北京大学光华管理学院会计系博士后，美国霍普金斯大学Carey商学院访问学者，国家“万人计划”青年拔尖人才，福建省新世纪优秀人才，福建省高层次人才，厦门大学南强青年拔尖人才，厦门大学管理学院群贤计划人才，入选福建省会计人才库。近年来已在《Review of Financial Studies》、《Review of Finance》、《Auditing: A Journal of Practice and Theory》、《Journal of Corporate Finance》、《Accounting and Business Research》、《ABACUS》、《The International Journal of Accounting》、《Accounting and Finance》、《Corporate Governance: An International Review》、《Review of Quantitative Finance and Accounting》、《China Journal of Accounting Research》、《经济研究》、《经济学（季刊）》、《管理科学学报》、《金融研究》、《统计研究》、《数量经济技术经济研究》、《中国工业经济》等重要学术刊物上发表论文60多篇。主要研究方向：公司财务、公司治理、资产定价。目前开设课程：统计学、计量经济学、SAS基础与金融计算、实证财务研究方法。研究成果获2014 MIT Asia  Conference （美国麻省理工学院亚洲年会）最佳论文奖、Review of Finance 2021年度最佳论文奖（Pagano and Zechner Award）、“The Research Training Program of Corporate Governance, Accounting and Corporate Finance”最佳论文奖、福建省第十届社会科学优秀成果一、二等奖、教育部高校科研优秀成果三等奖、全国统计优秀科研成果二等奖、福建省统计局科研成果二、三等奖、中国会计学会优秀论文三等奖等多项奖励，主持国家自然科学基金项目（青年与面上）、中国博士后科学基金项目（面上与特别资助）、教育部人文社科项目、福建省社会科学项目和自然科学项目、国家部委科研课题（国家税务总局与国家统计局）等多项课题。
